John Earl Fields Jr., an honorably discharged naval officer, beloved father, adoring grandfather, and devoted husband, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering strength. His remarkable journey touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on March 14, 1949, to parents John Earl Fields Sr. and Sarah Jackson-Fields, John was the beloved middle child of 5 children; Earlie Mae Fields-Williams, Rudolph Fields, Al Fields, and Judy Diaz. Growing up, he learned the values of integrity, perseverance, and loyalty, which shaped him into the remarkable individual he became.
John Earl Fields Jr. found love and companionship in the arms of his beloved wife, Ernestine Fields for 39 years. They shared a bond that withstood the test of time, weathering life’s joys and sorrows. Together they built a beautiful family filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
John has left behind a legacy of love and will be deeply missed by his daughter, Olivia Fields, his stepdaughter, Tracy Gainer, and his granddaughter Chezvonte Fields, whom he lovingly adopted, providing her with a nurturing and supportive home. He will forever be remembered as a beacon of strength, love, and inspiration by his grandchildren Ashley Horne, Romerro Fields, Armando Richard Johnston III, Nia Ambroise, Quentin Fields, Sha’don Gordon, and Imani Fields. The memories they shared will be cherished forever, and his spirit will continue to guide them through life’s journey.
Known for his wonderful smile and quick wit, John had an uncanny ability to light up any room he entered. He possessed a unique sense of humor that could bring joy to even the darkest of days. Though he was strict, his strictness was always accompanied by a deep and abiding love.
John also had an uncanny ability to overcome challenges. He seemed to possess 999 lives, always defying the odds and emerging stronger from adversity. His resilience and determination were an inspiration to all who knew him.
As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate John Earl Fields Jr.’s extraordinary life. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his family and friends find solace in the cherished memories they shared. Rest in peace, dear John Earl Fields Jr., knowing that your love and influence will forever guide us.
A private family ceremony will be held in July, when John will be buried at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton and honored for his service to the Navy.
