John “Lamar” Babb, 80, of Clarkesville Ga, passed away peacefully at his home on October 25, 2026. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Born in the town of Jackson, Georgia, Lamar’s life was a testament to the values of love, resilience, and family. Lamar was the cherished son of John Clay Babb and Virginia Babb. He graduated from Chamblee High School and later married Veda. Together they had two sons. Lamar and Veda also had five children from previous marriages.
Lamar loved fishing, hunting, gardening, music, and his dog Bella. He worked as a printer for over 55 years and retired from Color Dynamics in Allen, Texas.
Lamar was preceded in death by his dear children, John Lamar Babb Jr., Paul Babb, Shane Babb, and Theresa Dickens. Their memories were always held close in his heart. For over 52 years, Lamar shared a life filled with love and laughter with his devoted wife, Veda. Together, they built a life that became Lamar’s greatest treasure. He leaves behind his sons, Michael (Denise) Babb, Mark (Cindy) Babb, and Chuck (Teresa) Roland. Lamar’s legacy extends to his nine grandchildren: Lauren (Alex) Emmons, Daniel (Amy) Babb, Samantha Babb, Bradley (Kara) Babb, Zoe Babb, Shane Throckmorton, Brittany (Cameron) McCalpin, Ronnie Dickens, and JP (Kenzie) Rowland. Each grandchild held a special place in his heart, and he delighted in their achievements and growth.
Lamar is also survived by his brother-in-law Ronnie (Pauline) Melton, sister-in-law Patricia, and niece Heather (Zack) Pittman and their children Landyn and Liliam Pittman.
He was also the proud great-grandfather of eighteen great-grandchildren: Landon, Conner, and Lillian Emmons; Hunter, Serenity, Makayla, Fischer, and Alayna Babb; Ava, Alli, and Cario McCalpin; McKenzie Keesling, and Ember Parkins. Lamar’s eyes would light up at the mere mention of their names, and their visits brought him immense happiness.
Lamar will be remembered for his warmth, sense of humor, and quick wit. Lamar Babb’s life was a tapestry woven with love, resilience, and the cherished memories of those he held dear. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. His grandchildren will miss the “hey sugar” greetings and his smile the most. His wife will miss hearing him call her dumpling and him immensely.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
I am free
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free,
I’m following paths God made for me
I took his hand I heard him call
Then turned, and bid farewell to all I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to sing, to play
Tasks left undone must stay that way I found my peace…
at close of play
And if my parting left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Ah yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened… deep with sorrow
I wish you sunshine of tomorrow
My life’s been full I’ve savored much
Good friends, good times
A loved one’s touch
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don’t lengthen it now with grief
Lift up your hearts and share with me,
God wants me now…
He set me free.
