Joy Jerome “JJ” Knight Jr., beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. We trust and pray that he is now free from illness and pain.
Born in Gadsden, Alabama, and raised in Huntsville, JJ was a man known for his warmth, humor, generosity, and larger-than-life personality. He proudly and bravely served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict, earning a Purple Heart for wounds sustained during his service. Following his military service, JJ attended Auburn University, where he earned a master’s degree in business and embraced many of his passions, including playing football, theater, and his membership in Sigma Nu. He went on to build a successful career with Michelin Tires, where he became a top salesperson, and later partnered with his father to build and operate Architectural Installations of Atlanta.
Above all, JJ cherished his family. His love story with Vera began through letters exchanged across many miles and eventually brought them together in Paris, where their life together began. They shared a life filled with love, laughter, travel, and countless moments that became cherished family memories.
JJ was preceded in death by his son, Joel Knight. He is survived by his devoted wife, Vera Knight, and his daughter, Dasha Bryant.
JJ found joy in jazz, Auburn football, good southern food, singing, and, most of all, connecting with people. He had a gift for turning an ordinary conversation into a memorable story, always with his signature humor and a little extra color. His warmth, generosity, and infectious smile made people feel welcome, and his presence left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
JJ will be remembered for his love of family, his wonderful stories, his generous heart, and his unmistakable sense of humor. He brought laughter and life wherever he went and had a way of making even the simplest moments memorable. He was deeply loved, and his absence will be felt by all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.
We love him dearly and will always remember him.

Being J J an occasional appearance of Alabama moonshine would show up.
Knowing J J he will be keeping an eye on his beloved wife Vera and daughter Dasha.

I will miss JJ so much. He was a true friend. JJ and I shared so many memories. He was always there to lend a helping hand. Always wanting the best for me and my family. Never telling me what I wanted to hear, but what I needed to hear. Our unbreakable bond was forged by chance over twenty seven years ago. From that moment, I learned that he was passionate about life and the love of his life, Vera and Dasha.
I will miss picking up the phone and hearing that voice. Always with a story to tell, you will never be forgotten. Nevertheless, I am glad that you are free and no longer in pain. Seeing you in pain was difficult. Fly high my friend, my brother until we meet again. You did well and I am glad we forged that friendship many years ago. I will cherish the fond memories close to my heart.

JJ was not only a good neighbor but was a good friend. Always had a smile. I will never forget how with his southern accent he would call me ‘Billeee’. He was a true gentleman and a pleasure to be around. He loved his family and was proud of his life. He will be sorely missed. After all, he was one of the good ones.
