Joy Jerome “JJ” Knight Jr., beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. We trust and pray that he is now free from illness and pain.

Born in Gadsden, Alabama, and raised in Huntsville, JJ was a man known for his warmth, humor, generosity, and larger-than-life personality. He proudly and bravely served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict, earning a Purple Heart for wounds sustained during his service. Following his military service, JJ attended Auburn University, where he earned a master’s degree in business and embraced many of his passions, including playing football, theater, and his membership in Sigma Nu. He went on to build a successful career with Michelin Tires, where he became a top salesperson, and later partnered with his father to build and operate Architectural Installations of Atlanta.

Above all, JJ cherished his family. His love story with Vera began through letters exchanged across many miles and eventually brought them together in Paris, where their life together began. They shared a life filled with love, laughter, travel, and countless moments that became cherished family memories.

JJ was preceded in death by his son, Joel Knight. He is survived by his devoted wife, Vera Knight, and his daughter, Dasha Bryant.

JJ found joy in jazz, Auburn football, good southern food, singing, and, most of all, connecting with people. He had a gift for turning an ordinary conversation into a memorable story, always with his signature humor and a little extra color. His warmth, generosity, and infectious smile made people feel welcome, and his presence left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

JJ will be remembered for his love of family, his wonderful stories, his generous heart, and his unmistakable sense of humor. He brought laughter and life wherever he went and had a way of making even the simplest moments memorable. He was deeply loved, and his absence will be felt by all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.
