January 4th, 1966 – October 11th, 2026
Kurt Edward Scholpp, 60, of Flowery Branch, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2026, peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, following an extended illness.
Kurt was born on January 4, 1966, in Euclid, Ohio, to the late Harry and Carol (Deely) Scholpp. He moved to Pembroke Pines, Florida, in 1968 and attended McArthur High School. In 1982, Kurt and his parents moved to Roswell, Georgia. Soon after, Kurt began his career as a landscaper and developed a true passion for operating heavy machinery. In 1990, he founded Gainesmill Grading & Hauling with his brother, Harry Jr.
Kurt’s love for the outdoors and appreciation for the water developed at an early age. In his younger years, he spent countless hours lobster diving in South Florida and became known to many as the best boat captain around. His deep enthusiasm for life on the water was shared with his wife and two children. Countless family trips were spent boating in New Smyrna Beach and the Florida Keys, his favorite places. Kurt was happiest behind the wheel of a boat filled with love and laughter.
Above all else, Kurt was a devoted father to his children, Lyssa Charlotte and Landon Edward. His unwavering commitment to his son with special needs, truly reflected his unconditional patience and selflessness. One of his proudest moments as a father was learning Lyssa had been accepted to the University of Georgia, a milestone that brought him to tears of joy. Kurt’s pride in his children’s success was immeasurable; his greatest purpose in life was being their father.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Teresa Ann (Cigale) Scholpp; his daughter, Lyssa Charlotte Scholpp; and his son, Landon Edward Bradford Scholpp. He is also survived by his sister, Lynn Scholpp Scruggs; his brother, Harry Richard Scholpp Jr. His mother-in-law, Marcia Jane Cigale. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Kurt was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Carol Scholpp; his sister, Lisa Scholpp; and his furry best friend, Oscar. Along with several other cherished family members and dear friends.
His family hopes that those in the community will always remember the familiar sight of Kurt driving his gray F350 with Oscar hanging out of the back window and Landon riding shotgun. This memory perfectly captures the simple joys of his life.
Kurt’s family especially thanks the caring staff of Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center for the compassion, dignity, and kindness shown to Kurt and his family, throughout the past year, helping make his final moments peaceful.
A celebration of life will take place at The Retreat in River Forks Park (3500 Keith Bridge Road, Gainesville, GA, 30504) on Sunday, October 25th between 2PM – 5PM. Please join Kurt’s family to honor him!
Today, Kurt’s suffering has come to an end, but the love he leaves behind will live on forever.
