Nancy Marie Bates Allred

Share

Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.

Nancy Marie Bates Allred, formerly of McDonough, GA, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at her residence in Suwanee, Georgia. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Salem Baptist Church in McDonough on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 12:00 noon, with visitation beginning at 11:00 am. The Rev. Rick Statham will officiate.

Born April 30, 1943, in Childersburg, Alabama, Nancy was preceded in death by her mother and father, Inez and Edward Bates; her sister, Ruth Lester; and her husband of more than 57 years, Gerald Allred.

In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Nancy was a lover of music and children. Nancy earned an Associate’s Degree from Clayton Junior College and was a life-long church musician and piano teacher. For more than forty years, Nancy was the primary pianist/accompanist serving the Rock Baptist Church, Rex. After retirement, she accepted an opportunity at Salem Baptist Church, McDonough, and enjoyed accompanying the senior adult choir and providing music in the Wednesday morning worship service.

Nancy had a piano studio for approximately 55 years and invested in the lives of an incalculable number of students, often spanning multiple generations of families. In addition to music lessons, Nancy also influenced her students as she played myriad additional roles, as do many educators, when interacting with her students and their individual needs.

During her career, Nancy held membership and accepted leadership roles in the Music Teachers National Association, Georgia Music Educators Association, and the Georgia Music Teachers Association.

Nancy is survived by a son, Jeff Allred (Lisa); a daughter Amy Songer (Troy); granddaughters, Kathryn Pareago (Christopher) and Abigail Songer; a grandson, Brandon Lewis (Sally); three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Larry Bates (Barbara).

Heartfelt thanks are expressed to the staff of Arbor Terrace, Suwannee, her care team from Agape Hospice, as well as Nancy Howard, Misty Morgan, Stephanie Rooker, and Althea Dimaculangan, NP who supported her when living in her McDonough home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Baptist Church, 1724 Hwy 155 N., McDonough, GA 30252 or Agape Hospice of Northeast Georgia, 575 Old Norcross Road, Suite A, Lawrenceville, Georgia 30045
