Patricia Edmonds Johns passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024, at the age of 91. Born on July 3, 1933, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Wesley Edmonds and Agnes Wooten, she spent most of her life in Columbus, Georgia.
Preceded in death by her devoted husband of 52 years, Clifton D. Johns, Patricia is survived by her cherished daughter, Kellie Johns Wallis, and her son-in-law, David. She leaves behind her loving grandchildren, Whitney Rider (Reggie) and Cameron Wallis (Melissa), and her adored great-grandchildren, Wallis Rider, Chambers Rider, and Hudson Wallis.
Patricia’s legacy extends to her brother, James S. Edmonds, and his wife, Dorothy, as well as numerous loving nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Each of whom were her “favorite.”
A woman of many talents and interests, Patricia began her career as a secretary at Bibb Manufacturing Company. She later pursued a career as a paralegal at Owens, Littlejohn, Gower, and Pugh, and ultimately, retiring as a medical coder at West Central Georgia Regional Hospital.
Beyond her professional life, Patricia was a devoted and loyal friend. Her lifelong friendship with Betty Thompson was a source of joy and laughter. Together, they shared countless adventures, raised their children, and created lifelong memories. Between the friends, they had five children, who to this day feel like siblings sharing two mothers.
Patricia was an active member of Oates Avenue Baptist until it closed and then became a member of Bethany Baptist Church, where she formed deep connections with fellow parishioners. Her hobbies included traveling, shopping, reading, sewing, puzzles, games, and writing poetry. She was particularly fond of playing dominoes and participating in game days at the church, but she was always up for any adventure.
Even in her later years, Patricia remained active and engaged. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, and line dancing. Her love for reading was insatiable, she was a whiz at crossword puzzles and formidable opponent in Scrabble.
Patricia’s warmth, kindness, and generosity touched the lives of everyone she met. She was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, always willing to lend a helping hand and offer words of wisdom. Her quick wit and infectious laughter brought joy to those around her. She was highly regarded by all who knew her and had a way of making everyone feel special.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 8th, at 3 pm at Bethany Baptist Church in Phenix City. As the family gathers to remember Patricia, they invite friends and loved ones to share their memories and honor her life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Patricia’s memory.
Georgia Cremation – Columbus is assisting the family with the arrangements.
