Paul Russell Almond Jr. of Loganville, Georgia went to his heavenly home on February 22, 2021 after complications from COVID-19. He was 50 years old.
“Rusty” was born on March 3, 1970 to Paul and Lynn Almond and grew up in Lilburn, Georgia where his parents still reside. He graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. Russell was described by family and friends as a good man and a good friend. He always tried to be there for the people that needed him. He had a lifelong love of science fiction and gaming where he had a group of buddies that he has known since childhood. He loved to quote Star Wars.
He loved the Lord and found out as a young man that his spiritual gift was teaching young kids. He could be found every Sunday leading Children’s Church at Oak Hill or helping teach the kids at Graystone Church. His favorite bible verse he shared with his paternal grandmother was from Joshua 24:15 “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
Russell loved his children Victoria & Gabriel dearly and always tried to instill his love of the Lord in them. He was very proud when they gave their hearts to the Lord and carried around mementos in his wallet that marked those dates. He always worked hard to provide for his family with whatever they needed and would be there for those important events in their lives; horseshows, trips to the zoo or Fernbank.
Russell is survived by his wife of 24 years, Jennifer Almond and his children Victoria and Gabriel; parents, Paul and Lynn Almond; brother, James Almond; aunts & uncles, Sharon & Ron Holt, Marie & Richard English, John & Nancy Almond; nieces and nephews, Chloe & Mike Price, Andrew & Stephen Henry, Emma & Ian Matthey, Max & Evan Foege, Brandon, Logan, Jackson & Justin Almond; great-nephew, Sawyer; and many cousins and close friends that he dearly loved.
Russell is preceded in death by his grandparents; James & Bertha Almond, Albert & Faye Eselhorst, as well as his Aunt Kathy Eselhorst.
A Celebration of Life will be held (in person and virtual) at Graystone Church’s Ozora Campus in Loganville, Georgia on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at 3 PM. The service will be streamed on the church website for those that cannot make it to the service or are uncomfortable due to COVID-19. Russell made a difference in the lives of everyone who knew him! We were friends for 14 years at Oak Hill Church and did ministry together. His heart was telling kids about Jesus. He always supported whatever mission trip I was on. He would tell me he couldn’t physically go, but that he would help send me…and he did. His desire was for children all over the world to hear the Gospel. He led my sons class at church for many years and I led Victoria’s small group when she was a teenager. We invested in each other’s children as Brothers and Sisters in Christ and our kids grew up together in church, and at birthday celebrations. He was not only our friend, we considered him family. He made a difference in my family and we miss him very much. We pray for his family left behind but PRAISE GOD for the promise of where we KNOW he is right now. We will meet again!🙌🏻

My heart and prayers goes out to the family. He was the person we needed at work. His door was always open and he would always listen to what we had to say. Now he is in heaven listening to all. May God put his arms around his family.

Russell was a loving care person. He loved his family. He was a true nurture, he made sure things ran smoothly at work. I had my own health scare recently and he said Regina you will be ok and I’m saying a prayer for you. At that time I had no clue he was battling his own sickness. Yet he managed to say a prayer and give words of encouragement to me. He really cared about us at MidWest Medical and we will miss him dearly. May God comfort his family and friends.

Russell was such a wonderful person! He is the reason my son was always excited to go to church on Wednesday nights. He taught Josh how to memorize scripture and always rewarded him with baseball cards! Russell and I worked with the children together for many years at Oak Hill. He had such a great heart for kids. He got that from his sweet mother, Lynn. My prayers are with you Jennifer, Victoria, Gabrielle, Lynn and Paul.
Much love to you all.

We went to church with Russell and his family for years, but it has been maybe 8 years since we have seen him. He was such a nice guy who always had a positive attitude. He was a gentle, giving spirit who knew what was important in life- God, family, and friends. He loved to serve in the children’s ministry and we are so thankful for his service to our kids. We will continue to pray for his sweet family.

I never got to knew Russell very well and ever since he peacefully passed away at the hospital I haven’t been the same. I feel guilt and regret for never getting to talk to him and/or know him better. But Uncle Russell is in my prairs and I hope he rests peacefully and undisturbed in the afterlife.
