Rachel Allen was born September 7, 1923 in Tampa, Florida to the late Ethel Butler Hopkins and King David Hopkins, Sr. From an early age, Rachel was a devout woman of faith. Her family was her top priority and she was undoubtedly the matriarch of her family. She raised four children, three of her own and her beloved grandson. She was known for her cooking and when asked what her specialty is, many replied “everything.”
Mrs. Allen was a caregiver at heart, whether caring for her family or caring for one of her many patients over her twenty five year nursing career. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and developed into quite an exceptional seamstress. Her favorite past time was spending time with her family.
Rachel Allen, 97, of Ft. Mitchell, Alabama passed away March 26, 2021 at her home. She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Edgar Eugene Allen, Jr; and siblings, Raymond Hopkins, William Hopkins, King David Hopkins, Jr., Aletha Hopkins, Adolph Hopkins, and Angelina Hopkins.
Survivors include her children, Johnnie (Brett) Smith of Ft. Mitchell, Alabama and Earl Allen of Columbus, Georgia; beloved grandson, Gary Allen of Columbus, Georgia; sister, Clara Hopkins, and a host of extended family and friends.
The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff of Columbus Hospice for the care and support provided during this difficult time.
