IN LOVING MEMORY OF
RICKEY RONALD COOPER
July 22, 1946 – November 2, 2023
Rickey Ronald Cooper, 77, of Jonesboro, GA, peacefully went home to be with God on November 2, 2023.
Rick was born on July 22, 1946, to Johnnie Johnson and Rosa Mae Hill Cooper in Savannah, GA. After he graduated from Alfred E. Beach High School, he attended Savannah State University becoming a member of the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity for African American men, Alpha Phi Alpha and earned his bachelor’s degree. Rick later served in the U.S. Air Force before settling in Atlanta, GA. After serving in the military, he decided to pursue a long- standing career in healthcare and went on to work for many firms in the industry.
Rick was an ardent jazz enthusiast and photographer, avid football and basketball fan and loved playing tennis. After a lengthy career, he retired and spent time at his home in Jonesboro, GA, pursuing his love for cooking, woodworking, completing DIY home improvement projects and spending time with his loving wife and family. Rick held an unwavering faith in God and passionately served as Deacon Rick Cooper and a dedicated member of iThrive Christian Church until his passing.
Rick is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his devoted wife of 19 years, Doris Cooper; his sister, Gwendolyn Williams; three children, Tammy Cooper, Craig Cooper and Rhonda (Carl Deon) Campbell; four grandchildren, Michael Bernard, Kiera Oliver, Malik Ramsey and Deon Campbell; six great-grandchildren, Sedrick Harper, Calen Oliver, Kamora Oliver, Camden Oliver, Milani Ramsey, and McKinley Ramsey; three nieces & one nephew, Robin Ferguson, Tracy Ferguson, Jessica (Arthur) Weston and Elliott (Telesa Via) Ferguson; and five grandnieces, Kailyn Brim, Haily Brim, Danielle Hutchinson, Isabella Weston and Arianna Weston.
Rick is deeply loved by his family and friends and well respected by his community and church family. Now that Rick has passed into the arms of our Lord, we should remind ourselves that while this is the end of Rick’s physical life on earth, it’s the beginning of his eternal and beautiful life. There will be no services held at Rick’s request.
Our family is grateful to know that Rick is at peace with God.
The family wishes to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and unyielding support.

I worked with Rick at the Fulton County Health Department many years before he moved on to another site. I remember his humor most and the ever-present bow tie with impeccable many suits he wore with pride and joy. He was, along with many other colleagues, a dedicated public servant taking his job very seriously and being a pioneer worker in the early days of HIV-AIDS epidemic. He performed his job with commitment as an outreach worker educating the public and co-workers like myself in the intricacies of the transmission, treatment and and prevention of AIDS. I am sorry to hear his passing. My condolences to his family. May he rest in Peace.

I didn’t know Rick very well but the time I did know him it was a very good friendship. We met at the brother’s breakfasts and continued from there. May the family have peace and know that God was walking through his garden and was missing a certain flower and reached down and got Rick. My prayers are with the family. Love and Peace, the Barnes Family.
