Mr. Robert “Kenneth” Laird, age 96, of Gulfport, MS, passed away January 2, 2019.
Mr. Laird was born on May 16, 1922 in Carson, MS to the late Rex and Maude Laird. Mr. Laird was a Veteran of the United States Navy. He started as a Gunner Mate in WWII, rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer, and even taught military history his last two years of service. Mr. Laird retired from the Navy after 30 years of service to his country. Mr. Laird was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for his military service.
Mr. Laird was married to his sweetheart, Delia, on July 7, 1952. The couple had one daughter and one son. In 1966, Mr. Laird became a Quality Control Technician for NASA. In 1984, he retired to his farm in Gulfport, where he enjoyed many relaxing years of fishing and gardening.
Mr. Laird was a true family man. He loved and cared deeply for his wife. He was a loving father to his children. He was friendly, kind and optimistic. Mr. Laird was a longtime Master Mason of the Polar Star Lodge # 0154.
Along with his parents, Mr. Laird was preceded in death by his son: Robert “Keith” Laird, brothers and sisters: H.A. Laird, Cecil Laird, James Laird, Ford Laird, Johnny Laird, Herschel Laird, Linda Carson, Emogene Laird and Elizabeth Laird. He is survived by his wife of 66 years: Delia Julia Laird of Gulfport, MS; daughter and son-in-law: Janet and Chuck Gillen of Tyrone, GA; sister: Grace Ferris of Las Vegas, NV.
The Laird family is being assisted by Georgia Cremation, 1086 Highway 54 West, Fayetteville.

Mr. Laird will surely be missed by everyone in our neighbor hood. Our hearts are broken but everyone knows, He’s with the Good Lord. To the family we say, you were lucky to have a father, who lived so long and loved you so much. God Bless
