Ruby graduated from Columbus High School in 1958. Ruby met the love of her life Ron Meyer while taking dance lessons. Ron and Ruby wed in 1959 in Columbus and settled in Lincoln, Nebraska. Ruby gave birth to her first child Brian in 1960 and adopted her second child, Kendra seven years later. Ruby, Ron, and family moved to Ralston, Nebraska in 1973. Ruby was a wonderful cook and enjoyed collecting recipes for healthy dishes to serve to her family and friends. Ron and Ruby joined and worked in a food co-op in the 70’s. Ruby was making homemade yogurt, whole wheat bread, and buying honey from a local beekeeper before there were health food stores in Omaha, NE.

Ruby was an avid reader and enjoyed reading scripture and fiction. Ruby enjoyed traveling. Favorites included a family vacation to Yellowstone and Ruby and Ron’s 25th wedding anniversary trip to Hawaii. Upon retirement, Ruby and Ron traveled to North Carolina, Georgia, and Arizona to visit their daughter, Kendra. Ruby and Ron enjoyed attending community theater and concerts in and around Omaha. Ruby was an avid walker and stayed active doing water aerobics and walking with friends. Ruby also enjoyed playing cards and board games with her friends and grandchildren. In 2018, Ruby moved to Decatur, Georgia to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. In Decatur, Ruby lived at Clairmont Place Independent Living Community where she enjoyed playing bingo, walking, dining, and socializing with friends. David Barjenbruch says
Kendra and family,
We are saddened to have lost our Aunt Ruby. She was always a bundle of energy and quite the firecracker, as you know. I always looked forward to our trips to Ralston, as short as they were because we always had to get back to milk the cows. It was fun to get to the “big city” and enjoyed spending time with your family, the board games, music, cable tv – haha, and some of the “non-traditional” but healthier meals for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We didn’t know it then, but Ruby was well ahead of her time. May the peace and joy of eternal life ease our loss.
With love,
David, Nancy, Anna, and Ava Barjenbruch
