Mrs. Sharon “Sherry” Ann Vernick, age 73, of Fayetteville, GA passed away December 20, 2019.
Mrs. Vernick was born in Morristown, IN, on December 13, 1946. She graduated from Morristown High School and shortly thereafter moved to Indianapolis where she worked in finance. It was a chance meeting by a pool during a hot Indianapolis summer where Mrs. Vernick met her future husband, Dennis Vernick. The couple wed in 1985. Promotions in both Mr. and Mrs. Vernick’s careers led to their move to Houston, TX in 1987. The couple relocated again to Fort Myers Beach, FL, where they opened their own packaging and shipping business. The Vernicks’ last move brought them to Fayetteville, GA in 1995, where Mrs. Vernick spent the remainder of her life. In 2005, Mrs. Vernick became a dispatcher for an air ambulance company. She eventually retired in 2014.
Mrs. Vernick was witty and perpetually positive. She always spoke her mind. She was generous and had a big heart. When she saw a need, there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do to help. Mrs. Vernick had a love for dogs. Over the years she rescued, fostered and adopted many dogs. She was a longtime supporter and volunteer of the Fayette Humane Society, where she spent several years as the group’s president. Mrs. Vernick had another passion: Christmas. She enjoyed the holidays each and every year. She had an impressive collection of Christmas décor that she enjoyed displaying every December. Memories of Mrs. Vernick’s compassion and love for people and animals will be forever cherished by her family and friends.
Mrs. Vernick was preceded in death by her mother: Barbara Unger Whittington; father: Robert Whittington; adored pet dog: Baxley. She is survived by her loving husband: Dennis S. Vernick; beloved canine companions: Frazier and Annie.
A graveside service will be held in Mrs. Vernick’s honor in Indiana in the spring of 2020. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Vernick to the Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org. The Vernick family is being assisted by Georgia Cremation, 1086 Hwy 54 West, Fayetteville, GA.

I was so saddened Dennis when I heard of Sherry’s passing. She was so full of life when I first met her a few months ago at the Hope Center. She loved to communicate with my brother Johnny at the center. She always had a smile for me and for Johnny. My prayers and thoughts are with you Dennis during this difficult time. I know also that the journey you had to make with Sherry at The Hope Center was not an easy one. The world now has another guard as n angel. Kathy Warren

What a lady she was!!! I am so honored that I had the opportunity to get to know her during my time with the Fayette Humane Society. She always made me smile and I was in awe of all she did. Seeing her with Baxley and then Frazier and little Annie, it was easy to see how much she loved the furbabies. Hugs to Dennis and the family 💕

I knew you a life time ago and though I never knew your wife Sherry, I am so very your loss. She sounded like a wonderful person and that you had many happy years with her.
