4 Important Reasons to Hold a Memorial Service

June 5, 2015 by Duluth

Over the years, hundreds of families have visited our Georgia Cremation Center to arrange a cremation for themselves or a loved one. Before they came to see us, many of these folks didn’t realize you can hold a memorial service with cremation. Just like with a traditional burial, families can choose to hold a memorial service before or after the cremation of their loved one.

Whether you prefer to host a Celebration of Life here at our Georgia Cremation Center, arrange a traditional memorial service at your church or simply hold a small gathering at some other venue of your choice, we strongly encourage you to pay tribute to your loved one with a meaningful service. After all, the memorial service is an extremely important ritual for families who recently lost a loved one.

Here are four important reasons to hold a memorial service for your loved one:

  1. It allows you to pay tribute to a life well lived. The memorial service is the perfect time to remember and pay tribute to your loved one’s unique life. During the service, you may invite family and friends to share special thoughts, memories and stories about your loved one.
  2. It’s a time of caring and sharing. A memorial service allows families to comfort and support each other during an extremely difficult time. By leaning on loved ones who share your pain and sadness, you will gain strength and hope for the future.
  3. It offers a sense of closure. It can be extremely difficult to accept the death of a loved one. However, a memorial service often provides a clear sense of closure, which will allow you to begin your grieving process. Of course, you will never forget your loved one; they’ll hold a place in your heart forever. The memorial service is simply your first step on your journey to healing.
  4. It’s an opportunity to celebrate a one-of-a-kind life. This is your chance to put your loved one’s life in the spotlight and celebrate their distinctive personality. To create a truly meaningful memorial service, we encourage families to add special touches that reflect their loved one’s unique personality—from photo and memento displays and special music to favorite foods and DVD tributes.

Whether you choose to hold a service at our Georgia Cremation Center, your church or anywhere else, we’re here to help you honor your loved one’s unique life with a truly memorable tribute. We offer everything from simple memorial services and life celebrations to Veteran services and Catholic cremation services. At Georgia Cremation, we’ll honor any special request you may have—all you have to do ask!
